Sharlene Houston

3rd Grade Teacher

I am happy to teach here for my second year at America’s Finest Charter School, because kids really do come first here.  Each student has the ability to be challenged and pushed to reach his potential with the support from teachers and staff.  This is my tenth year of teaching mostly grades 4 and 6.  I love the curriculum in sixth grade, since it is interesting and challenging.

I’m a native San Diegan from a large family.  I was proud to attend San Diego State University, as I was only the second child in my immediate family to go to college.  There I studied Liberal Arts and earned my Bachelor’s Degree and Teaching Credential.  To further my education, my interests lie in special education and reading instruction, and I have plans to go back to college this summer.

When I’m not teaching, I am most likely spending time with my American Indian dog, swimming at the beach, or working around the yard.  I also enjoy Monday evenings with a special needs ministry called ‘Luv on Fire,’ mountain biking when I get the opportunity to, and being creative through arts and crafts.
