Enrollment Procedure

Our school offers both online and in-person school-site

enrollment.

 

Please read below to determine which option you are eligible

to pursue.

Enroll Online

Once you submit your online enrollment request,

our office staff will contact you when to come to the school and what to bring.  If you are ready to enroll your child, you can complete the online enrollment and our office will contact you when we receive your application.

Some items you may need are listed below. The enrollment process is not complete until you visit the school and we receive all necessary documents.

​

  1. Proof of Residency (recent utility bill, rental agreement or rent payment receipts, property tax payment receipt, mortgage documents or military housing orders)

  2. Proof of Immunization

  3. Copy of birth certificate, baptismal certificate or passport 

 

In Person Enrollment

Please contact our office staff to schedule an enrollment appointment.  The school will advise you when to come to the school and what to bring.

Please bring with you the following items when you enroll your child at the school.

  1. Complete America's Finest Charter School Enrollment Packet, which can be downloaded or picked up from the front office.

  2. Proof of Residency (recent utility bill, rental agreement or rent payment receipts, property tax payment receipt, mortgage documents or military housing orders)

  3. Proof of Immunization 

  4. Copy of birth certificate, baptismal certificate or passport

What actions must I take and what materials do I need to enroll my child?

All students must be enrolled by a parent/guardian and provide the documents outlined below. Students are not allowed to attend class until the school has received all the required documents and proof that your child has received all currently due immunizations. (Page updated 8/14/18)

All students (Pre K–12)

  • Notice: All  students require proof of birth such as: Birth Certificate, church records (Baptismal Certificate) or Passport.

​

  • Proof of residency:  must provide current documentation of residency which may include but is not limited to one or a combination of the following:  utility bill (SDG& E or cable/internet); rental or lease agreement; rental or lease payment receipts; mortgage documents; military housing orders.  Enrolling parent/guardian’s name must be present on the documentation.

​

  • Proof of immunizations against polio, measles, mumps and rubella (MMR), diphtheria, tetanus and whooping cough (DTaP), hepatitis B (Hep B) and chickenpox (Varicella or proof of having had chickenpox).

Per SB 277, as of January 1, 2016, parents or guardians of students in any school or child care facility, whether public or private, are no longer allowed to submit a personal belief exemption to currently required vaccines. Medical exemptions require specific documentation from a licensed physician (MD/DO).

Transitional Kindergarten (TK)

  • Children must turn 5 between September 2 and April 1 to be eligible to enroll in Transitional Kindergarten (TK).  TK is the first year of a two-year kindergarten program that uses a modified kindergarten curriculum that is age and developmentally appropriate.

  • Copy of a birth certificate, baptismal certificate or passport.

​

  • Children entering transitional kindergarten need:

    • 4 Polio (3 doses meet requirement if at least one was given on or after the 4th birthday)

    • 5 DTaP (4 doses meet requirement if at least one was given on or after the 4th birthday)

    • 3 Hep B

    • 2 MMR (Both doses given on or after 1st birthday. Two doses of mumps, two doses of mumps, two doses of measles, and 1 dose of rubella vaccines are required if given separately.)

    • 2 Varicella

 

Kindergarten

  • Children must turn five years by September 1st to be eligible to enroll in Kindergarten.

  • Copy of a birth certificate, baptismal certificate or passport.

  • Children entering kindergarten need:

Physical Exam

California’s Child Health and Disability Prevention (CHDP) program requires every child to have a physical examination before entering school in kindergarten. Please submit a copy of your child's medical checkup to the school when you register for kindergarten or as soon as it is completed during kindergarten.

You are encouraged to obtain this exam by kindergarten entry to make sure your child is healthy and ready to learn. Transitional Kindergarten students who submit a physical exam will fulfill this requirement for kindergarten.

 

If a physical exam is against your personal beliefs, you must sign a CHDP waiver form at the school. Students who have not met this requirement by the appropriate date may be excluded from school attendance for up to five days. 

 

K-1 Dental Exam (OHA)

Effective January 1, 2007, an Oral Health Assessment (OHA) by a licensed California dental health professional is required for children entering public school for the first time (at kindergarten or first grade). The OHA must be completed and returned to the school by May 31 of that first school year.  

 

Assessments done 12 months prior to school entry also meet this requirement. Obtain the form from the school or your dental health provider to complete. Transitional kindergarten students who submit an oral health assessment will complete this requirement.

Parents or guardians may sign a waiver of this requirement, which is found on the OHA form available at the school. There is no penalty or exclusion if this requirement is not met. 

 

All Grade 1 students

Must be at least 6 years old by September 1st unless they have completed a year of public school kindergarten.

 

Students Ages 7-17 (enrolling for elementary or secondary)

  • Children ages 7-17 need:

    • 4 Polio (3 doses meet requirement if at least one was given on or after the 4th birthday)

    • 4 DTaP, DTP, DT, Tdap, or Td (3 doses OK if last dose was given on or after 7th birthday. At least 1 dose must be Tdap or DTaP/DTP given on or after 7th birthday for all 7th-12th graders)

    • 2 MMR (Both doses given on or after 1st birthday. Two doses of mumps, two doses of measles, and 1 dose of rubella vaccines are required if given separately.)

    • 2 Varicella

  • Children entering grade 7 need**:

    • 1 dose of Tdap given on or after 7th birthday.

    • 2 Varicella

**New admissions to 7th grade should also meet the requirements for ages 7-17 of age.

America's Finest Charter School is not allowed to discourage a pupil from enrolling or seeking to enroll in the charter school because the pupil exhibits any characteristics such as students with disabilities, academically low-achieving, English learners, neglected or delinquent, homeless, socially economically disadvantaged, foster youth, or based on nationality, race, ethnicity, or sexual orientation.

 

America's Finest Charter School is not allowed to request a pupil's records before enrollment or encourage a child who is enrolled in a charter school to disenroll or transfer to another school. A parent, guardian, or pupil (18 years or older) may file a Charter School Complaint Form to the authorizing entity if they suspect the charter school is in violation of Education Code Section 47605(d)(4).
